The Director, SOX Internal Controls, will coordinate strategy execution and day-to-day operations for a unit engaged in supporting and managing SOX compliance efforts. Articulate goals, allocate resources, and manage workflow.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead activities related to evaluating SOX compliance activities, including control and process documentation and identification of control gaps.
  • Lead deficiency management process to identify, communicate, and track remediation of control gaps.  Perform assessment of gaps for quarter and annual disclosures.
  • Manage liaison with internal and external points of contact. Provide guidance at the highest level of technical complexity on critical matters related to internal controls.
  • Report to senior management on the program's production, activities, and efforts.
  • Represent the program as an expert or resource to cross-functional project or coordinating teams.
  • Plan, document, and manage the performance of subordinate managers and/or staff. Provide for professional or technical growth through assignment, mentoring, or training.
  • Plan and manage the program's budget. Approve expenditures or budget transfers.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor Degree Required.  Focus in Accounting Finance, Audit or Business Preferred.
  • Master or Other Advanced Degree Preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • 10 years of related experience

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • 3 years experience in SOX program implementation and management at a financial institution.   Includes documentation, design analysis, testing, analysis and remediation.   Exposure to risk management with a focus on operational risk management. 
  • Prior experience in external consulting or auditing focusing on internal controls, process design, and financial reporting for financial services entities with a specialization in mortgage banking strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with processes of a large financial service institution; experience in a mortgage accounting environment is also preferred.
  • Experience in leading multiple teams across various cross-functional initiatives. 
  • In-depth understanding of the provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 and ability to apply this knowledge to implement and manage SOX program.  Ability to assess process design and identify control gaps and/or inefficiencies. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate the effective communication and presentation of project status, issues and highlights to project stakeholders and executive management. 
  • Strong project management skills including identifying, deploying and managing resources.  Ability to manage issue resolution including identifying the need for escalation, raising issues timely and appropriately and executing the solution.
