As part of the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Equity Control Initiative Group, the candidate will serve as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team whose mandate is to ensure that project deliverables are implemented in an efficient manner. The candidate will act as a change agent, will manage a variety of Accounting and Control initiatives at every phase of the project life cycle. The individual will use his/her knowledge of processes and best practices to assist in the identification, assessment and resolution of complex issues/problems relating to Accounting and Control with emphasis on P&L processing.
The role of this project manager will require the candidate to have strong working knowledge of the investment banking "front to back" processes and a sound knowledge of the control environment that should be in place.

Department summary:
The mandate of the Global Equity Strategic Initiatives & Finance Integration team is:

  • To own all change activities relating to the Equity middle office, be they transition, process optimization, revenue generation or cost reduction.
  • To work across Lines of Business to harmonize operational controls, sub-ledger, P&L Reporting and touch points with regulatory and risk partners.

The team work on all stages of the project lifecycle, from inception through post-live control and partners closely with the Front Office, line Middle Office, Operations, Risk and Finance to deliver optimal business solutions.

The ideal candidate has middle office or finance experience supporting trading desks P&L analysis and processing and is looking to impact the business by managing projects and change initiatives. He/She will have the desire to advance their skills in project management, reporting and oversight in order to promote change for the better and improvements in the overall support environment. Strong communication and networking skills are a prerequisite as this role will have direct exposure to senior global management within Equity Derivatives Business and extensive communication with various Technology groups. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong Project Management skills relating to process and Technology deliveries in the Front or Middle Office of an Investment Bank within the Derivatives space, preferably within Equities.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and document current processes and workflow.
  • Lead or contribute to high level requirements gathering with global stakeholders.
  • Document detailed business requirements.
  • Discuss, explain, and negotiate business requirements with business users and stakeholders.
  • Propose solutions and address and resolve issues raised by stakeholders.
  • Responsible hands-on problem resolution, business requirement documentation, and UAT.
     

Manages a team of individuals typically >4 direct reports. Accountable for the the success of small projects or sections of larger ones. Responsible for the quality and timeliness of all project deliverables and well as the implementation of relevant project management practices (status reporting, issue tracking etc). Day to day responsibility for managing the project with line, technology and other partners. In depth product experience & knowledge of financial instruments accounting and transaction lifecycle, and strong project and program management skills required. May be responsible for staffing, performance management and compensation decision making. BA preferred or substantially equivalent experience. Typically 7-10 years of applicable experience.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • College Degree required.
  • Accounting background or experience in a financial services mid office processing or controller function desirable.
  • Strong understanding of P&L processing.
  • Ability to drive change. Strong collaboration and relationship management skills. High sense of urgency with ability to drive results.
  • Business Analyst Ability. 4+ years performing business analysis/definition and related work supporting projects and business change. Experience in full project lifecycle - Analysis/requirements, design, build, testing, and implementation/production support. Have proven requirement gathering, process definition and documentation skills, with ability to handle diverse workload and tight schedules. Strong problem solving, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong Understanding of financial processes. Equities, Derivatives or related Middle office experience required. Understanding of the full product life cycle and understanding Trade lifecycle. Experience in Middle Office/Finance /Operations re-engineering initiatives. Must have ability to apply strategic thinking to organizational and business issues, ability to translate into practical plans for project execution.
  • Must be able to operate in an exceptionally detail oriented manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills. Ability to bridge communication amongst diverse stakeholder groups. Ability to work across global business groups and in a team environment. Strong inter-personal and negotiation skills.
