As part of the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Subledger Reconciliation Group, you will serve as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team whose mandate is to ensure our key financial systems are reconciled to our subledgers. As part of a project team, you will apply your knowledge of processes and best practices within technology (application integration / application development) and finance/operations to assist in the identification, assessment and resolution of complex issues/problems. You will be integral in carrying out the projects to realize the vision for reconciliation's for the combined Bank of America Merrill Lynch organization. You will support the daily and month-end close reconciliation processes by identifying breaks, analyzing their root cause, and working with business lines and technology to close them.

Department summary:
The mandate of the Global Equity Strategic Initiatives & Finance Integration team is:

  • To own all change activities relating to the Equity middle office, be they transition, process optimization, revenue generation or cost reduction.
  • To work across Lines of Business to harmonize operational controls, sub-ledger, P&L Reporting and touch points with regulatory and risk partners.
     

The team work on all stages of the project lifecycle, from inception through post-live control and partners closely with the Front Office, line Middle Office, Operations, Risk and Finance to deliver optimal business solutions.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic recent college graduate with advanced analytical skills and a desire to learn and understand the processes and workflow's in a successful financial institution. With a background in finance, mathematics, computer science, engineering or accounting, the candidate will want to be an integral part of a team that provides innovative solutions and control tools for business controls.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Partner closely with Middle Office, operations, finance and CCO teams members and Technology Partners to execute on plans to define/re-define business processes and implement related technology solutions.
  • As part of the team, they will be expected to take direct responsibility for work deliverables, engage with project partners and manage related issues/risk.
  • Responsible for participating in all phases of project lifecycle from the definition of business requirements and processes through to systems development, testing and implementation.
  • Communication and relationship building skills will be heavily utilized in coordinating team members and project partners toward accomplishing team goals (i.e. Testing, Requirements Gathering, etc.).
     

Responsible for identifying and communicating issues identified-analytical skills are key to finding breaks, understanding what the problem is, and what the solution needs to be.

Responsible for the execution of individual project activities. May include documentation of business processes and business requirements, execution of user testing and project implementations. Liaises with technology, line and other partners at the working level. Theoretical product knowledge/knowledge of financial instruments accounting relevant to their area. Awareness of project management skills and strong desktop application skills (Excel, Access). BA preferred or substantially equivalent experience. Typically 1-3 years of applicable experience.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • College Degree required.
  • Accounting background or experience in a financial services controller function desirable.
  • Strong understanding of databases and excel-SQL knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to drive change. Strong collaboration and relationship management skills. High sense of urgency with ability to drive results.
  • Business Analyst Ability. 2+ years performing business analysis/definition and related work supporting projects and business change. Experience in full project lifecycle - Analysis/requirements, design, build, testing, and implementation/production support. Have proven requirement gathering, process definition and documentation skills, with ability to handle diverse workload and tight schedules. Strong problem solving, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong Understanding of financial processes. Understanding of business unit control functions and corporate reporting. Understanding of the full product life cycle and understanding Trade lifecycle. Experience in Middle Office/Finance/Operations re-engineering initiatives. Must have ability to apply strategic thinking to organizational and business issues, ability to translate into practical plans for project execution. Equities, Derivatives or related Middle office experience a strong plus.
  • Must be able to operate in an exceptionally detail oriented manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills. Ability to bridge communication amongst technologists and between Middle Office Analysts and Technologists. Ability to work across business groups and in a team environment.
