Former National Security Advisor and 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James Jones, USMC (Ret), has joined Deloitte LLP as a Senior Advisor. In his new role, General Jones will work in an advisory capacity with the firm’s federal and commercial clients and Department of Defense practice.

After more than 40 years of uniformed service to the nation, including serving as the 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps from July 1999 to January 2003, General Jones retired from active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps in February 2007. In November of that year, General Jones was appointed as the State Department’s Special Envoy for Middle East Regional Security.

Appointed National Security Advisor to President Barack Obama on January 20, 2009, General Jones also served as president and chief executive officer of the U.S. Chamber Institute for 21st Century Energy.

“I look forward to working on the significant challenges that face our nation and Deloitte’s public and private sector clients,” said General Jones. “I am eager to combine my experiences with Deloitte’s outstanding capabilities to create valuable solutions for the marketplace.”

Robin Lineberger, CEO, Federal Government Services, Deloitte LLP commented:

“Our Federal Government faces very difficult decisions which are reflected by tightening budgets and programs. Jim’s vast background as a leader and visionary will benefit both Deloitte and our clients in a time of significant budget challenges. He brings insights into the vexing issues our clients are grappling with across the federal government, and will have a particular focus on Deloitte’s Department of Defense practice.”

“General James Jones is a game-changing hire who will provide valuable and unique insights for our Federal Practice,” added Lineberger.

Lead by General Charles F. Wald (USAF, Retired), Deloitte’s Department of Defense (DoD) practice works with DoD clients to solve their most difficult challenges in an affordable, innovative, and value driven way.  Deloitte has been working with the DoD since 1912, and today approximately 1,400 Deloitte practitioners work with all branches of the Department of Defense in Greater Washington and beyond.
