Deloitte Report: Political Gridlock Is Hindering Job Creation
September 10, 2012
Deloitte recently published its findings on the state of the labor market. The report highlighted several concerns over the current state of job creation in the United States. One of the biggest challenges to job creation is an inability for both political parties to come to a compromise.
John Hagel is the co-chairman for Deloitte Center for the Edge. Hagel said that the United States is struggling to be competitive in the global economy. He stated that lawmakers will need to implement new policies to help the United States become more competitive and create new jobs.
Hagel said that the United States needs to reframe how it focuses on helping employees develop new skills. Policy makers are focusing on using formal education to prepare people who are entering the workforce. Hagel said their focus should be on identifying relevant skills they need to succeed and helping them cultivate those skills.
The report said that governments need to pass a number of new regulations to stimulate job growth. They will need to offer new protections to offer protections to consumers without hurting new businesses. Many of the policies make it more difficult for small businesses to expand. These policies will need to be changed to help businesses expand and create new jobs.
