November 20, 2012
By Rob Starr, Content Manager, Big4.com
A new report assesses the deployment of mobile ticketing and the migration to open fare systems, two important trends in public transportation. It examines the opportunities for traditional and nontraditional transport technology providers that are being generated by these trends. Accenture (NYSE: ACN) is listed as a “vendor to watch” based on evaluation of its transportation industry expertise and a focus on mobility in the recently published above mentioned report, Gartner Market Trends: Mobile Ticketing for Public Transportation, Worldwide, 2012.
The move toward both mobile and open fare management is examined by the report, as well as the scale of adoption of mobile ticketing. It examines technology trends and outlines the areas where mobile ticketing can deliver value in the public transportation industry.
Michael J. Wilson, Head of Accenture’s Public Transportation practice in North America comments:
“We are pleased to be recognized by Gartner as we work with our clients to identify their issues using a strategic research-based approach backed up by strong technical delivery capabilities that drive better business outcomes, he said. “Accenture’s public transportation expertise, combined with experience in implementing large mobility projects involving significant back-end integration and large-scale deployment – were drivers for our inclusion in the report.”
