We hear that Andras Simor, country head of Deloitte and Touche LLP since 2002 will be appointed as the next governor of Hungary s central bank. He will take the job in March 2007 when Zsigmond Jarai, the current governor s term expires. Mr. Simor is a non-political appointee, thus somewhat immune from partisan plays plaguing Hungary.
Mr. Simor has a long association with the development of Budapest s financial markets since the early 1990s even before he joined Deloitte. He was a former chairman of the Budapest Stock Exchange, and founded the Budapest arm of Creditanstalt Securities in 1989, privatized Hungary s largest state-owned companies into capital markets and in 2001 was named one of the top 50 managers in Europe by American magazine Business Week.
In all, an accomplished finance professional Investors and analysts are expected to welcome Mr Simor s as a political independent and a skilled manager.
