ROLE PURPOSE:
The Director, Technical Accounting and Policy, is a newly created position that will serve as the technical accounting subject matter expert with respect to the company’s generally accepted accounting policies, and to ensure quality and timeliness of financial guidance throughout the company’s finance organization. The position will have dual reporting to VPs, Technical Accounting and Policy Assistant Controllers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain company’s accounting policies to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards
- Assist in technical accounting consultation to the company’s divisions via research on, analysis and documentation of complex accounting issues, applying relevant technical guidance and interpretation
- Proactively monitor, review, research and interpret GAAP and analyze emerging accounting pronouncements for policy/financial statement implications
- Create and maintain a database of accounting conclusions to enable research and drive consistency across the company
- Work closely with financial reporting group and business units with the implementation of new accounting standards, providing clarification of terms to users
- Participate in various special projects as assigned, including analysis of potential investments, potential acquisitions or divestitures; work on development of internal trainings for the finance and business communities
- Act as liaison to external auditors in the resolution of technical accounting issues
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance
- CPA required
- Minimum of 7+ years of work experience in a big four accounting firm or significant accounting policy setting organization or corporate accounting experience

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of IFRS and key differences between US GAAP and IFRS
- MBA is a plus
- High degree of technical proficiency required
- Experience with performing complex accounting research and technical activities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to interact with various levels of finance personnel and be able to explain complex accounting in succinct manner; a good listener
- Superior project management skills. An ability to multitask and work on several projects, ensure processes are followed and deadlines are met
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills
