Monsanto has an immediate opening for a Tax Attorney (International Tax) in St. Louis, Missouri to work with other members of the International Tax group and Tax Provision group in identifying, developing, analyzing, modeling and implementing strategies and plans to minimize the corporate effective tax rate and reduce Monsanto's overall tax burden.
 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and counsel to ex-U.S. world area finance teams on U.S. tax implications of cross-border transactions including coordination and review of local country tax advice.
  • Assist with the review and analysis of the foreign tax provision for quarterly/annual financial statements, including analysis and documentation of possible tax contingencies for FIN 48 purposes.
  • Assist with the management and oversight of the foreign dividend repatriation planning process and work with Treasury and International Tax group members to develop, analyze and implement optimal cash repatriation plans. This includes coordination of the maintenance of earnings and profits, tax pools and other relevant tax attributes of each of Monsanto's 150+ foreign affiliates.
  • Provide support/assistance on Monsanto's ex-U.S. audits as well as U.S. IRS Audit including, preparation of responses to information requests generated by IRS international examiners, and assist in formulating strategies to defend filing positions. This responsibility involves supporting and defending the information/calculations contained in those portions of Monsanto's consolidated federal tax return which were prepared by the International Tax group.


Requirements:

  • 7 or more years of tax experience in a public accounting or corporate tax environment including at least 3 or more years of international tax experience.
  • JD required; BS in Accounting or Finance preferred.



Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of GAAP reporting, SOX, FAS 109 and FIN 48.
  • Team player with strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; self-motivated individual with ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Excellent work ethic, eager to learn and a positive attitude are key.
  • Challenges self and others to continuously seek process improvements while producing a high quality work product.
  • Requires ability to obtain critical information from diverse and multi-cultural organization in a timely fashion.
